Taiwan, or so called Republic of China is a country situated in East Asia. The capital city is also the largest one – Taipei, the official language is Mandarin. Taiwan’s population is just over 23 million people. Chinese Taipei, as the country is also called, took part in the establishment of UN’s Security Council and is one of its permanent members.
Taiwan brags a well developed capitalist economy, in which exports play the leading role. Taiwan ranks 18th in the world for GDP and 24th for GDP for investments and international trade. The country is named “One of the four Asian tigers” alongside South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore. This is due to the economy growth and industrialisation after the second half of the 20th century, called “Taiwan miracle”

Higher education in Taiwan is focused on technological and professional training with the main purpose of acquiring and perfecting practical and work skills.
The number of international students in Taiwan is expected to reach 150 000 by 2020. New programmes in English are being integrated in order to increase the number of foreign students, another motivating factor for international students to opt for Taiwan are the scholarships given out by the government or the universities themselves.
Tuition fees depend on what degree and program you want to study. Bachelor degree programmes cost between $1650 and $2000 a year, and Master degree programmes cost around $1700 to $2000.
In order to study in Taiwan you need a student visa. You are allowed to work up to 16 hours a week while you study, but you have to get a special allowance letter beforehand for work-study purposes.
