Indonesia or as it is officially called Republic of Indonesia is a country situated in Southeast Asia and Oceania and over the Malaysian Archipelago, in between the Indian and Pacific Ocean. It is composed of 17 500 islands and 34 provinces. The estimated population is 266 357 297, which makes it the most populous Muslim country in the world. The capital city is Jakarta and the official language is Indonesian. Indonesia is a member of G-20. Indonesia ranks 7th in the world by GDP.

Economy

Indonesia is one of the richest countries in the world in terms of natural resources.

Well-developed industries are:

Universities

In Indonesia there are just over 3000 higher education institutions, split into 5 groups – universities, specialized colleges, institutes, academies and polytechnic academies. The tuition fees vary, depending on the university and the degree, but usually the fees are around £2000-£6000 for Bachelor and Master degrees, with PhD being a little more expensive.

Education as a whole in Indonesia has been undergoing huge changes in the last 10 years, each year more than 30 million dollars are being invested in its development. As a consequence of those investments, most universities have improved their services and offer their students more up-to-date ways of teaching, for example, they started cooperating together and organising events, they have guest lecturers, they do study researches and seminars.

International Students – Statistics

In Indonesia there are barely 15 000 international students, which is a very small number, considering Malaysia has just over 60 000 and Singapore – over 50 000.

The biggest part of international students in Indonesia come over from Malaysia.

Programmes

Indonesian universities offer more than 20 000 programmes and courses. The most preferred ones are Medicine, Pharmacy, Literature, Humanities, Islamic Studies, and Engineering.

Most of the programmes are being taught in the native, Indonesian language, but there are also many, which are offered in English.

For example, there are 14 universities in Bali, 2 of them being the most prestigious ones: Udayana University and Warmadewa University. They offer Bachelor and Master degrees and also a lot of programmes, some of which in English. The most popular programmes are Architecture, Business and Engineering sciences. Tuition fees range between $1800 and $2300 US Dollars.
