The Russian Federation or in short Russia is the largest country in the world, covering 1/8 of the Earth surface.  It spans on 2 continents and shares borders with 18 countries. By population Russia ranks 9th (146 million). Moscow is the capital city and the largest one. Russian is the official language.

Economy

Energy Powerhouse is a synonym for Russia, as the country is the biggest exporter and the second largest producer of natural gas, as well as the largest producer and exporter of petrol. Alongside petrol, Russia also exports agricultural produce, nuclear reactors, military equipment, gold, timber, aircraft, cars, ships, technology, etc.

The country is also one of the biggest investors in the world.

Universities

Higher education in Russia was recently named “Among the best in the world” in 2010. There are just over 1 050 universities, 660 of them being state and the other 390 being private. They are split into 3 categories – universities, academies and institutes.

Russia is part of the Bologna Convention, and as such, Russian higher education diplomas are accredited in all European countries, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and in the former USSR countries and all other countries, which are part of the Bologna Convention.

International Students

According to some research, the number of international students in Russia is on a considerable rise of some 40%. Stats currently indicate that 290 000 foreigners opt to study at a Russian university, but their number is expected to exceed 425 000 by 2024. The largest number of international students come from Kazakhstan, China, Turkmenistan and as a whole the former USSR republics. Higher education in Russia is said to be up to 7 times cheaper than in Europe and USA. Average of $2 000 for Bachelor degrees and $2 500 for Master. In order to study in Russia you will need a visa and health insurance.

Russian government gives out 15 000 state scholarships to international students, which cover all the expenses for your programme.
